Our Story

MUNS is a shared dream that we, Bianca Muns and Paola Muns, began building in 2015.

Bianca discovered her passion for fashion after her first job as a visual merchandiser for a fast-fashion brand. While she valued the experience, she wanted to step away because it didn’t align with her values. She desired to build something in a different work environment that wasn’t fast-paced and that would allow her to express her creativity.

Paola Muns has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. After working with our uncle, who distributed jewelry materials and designed jewelry sold in small booths throughout San Juan, Paola discovered her love for the industry. She studied entrepreneurship and learned in-depth the process of designing and crafting jewelry.

Together, we started MUNS and went from buying and selling jewelry to designing our own. Little by little, while remaining self-funded, we opened our Old San Juan store after exclusively participating in pop-ups.

After 10 years, MUNS has changed, and so have we. Starting this brand so young gave us the freedom to build at our own pace. It has allowed us to design a mindful life where our work and our family can coexist in the same space. It lets us choose how and when we do things.

Creating together has been our most beautiful journey as we’ve become better entrepreneurs, designers, sisters, and now mothers. We hope our story and our pieces inspire you to live in the moment as MUNS did for us.

Our Process

Our collections are born from individual living experiences that later intertwine: art we love, the books we read, our family, motherhood, travels, and, of course, Puerto Rico.

When designing our pieces, we think of our family and the decades-old heirlooms we’ve inherited that remind us of the love they gave us. We think of our daughters and what we want to leave them in this world.

That’s why every piece we launch has a story and is crafted to be lived in, loved, and, perhaps, passed down.

Our jewelry begins as sketches that we refine through computer-aided design (CAD). They’re primarily made with rhodium-plated sterling silver to resist tarnishing, gold vermeil, 14k gold closures, and recycled materials. We also incorporate curated gemstones in our pieces to add pops of color.

We produce our gold vermeil and sterling silver jewelry in the United States and in a small, trusted factory in India. Nearly 90% of our chains are made in Rhode Island by a family-owned manufacturer. Our gemstone pieces are assembled in our Old San Juan studio by our team.

Our clothing is inspired by vintage silhouettes and made from 100% linen, which is perfect for hot, humid climates and requires less water to produce. We also release limited-edition tank tops made with 100% cotton. These are made in Colombia by a small factory trusted by other Puerto Rican brands.

Because we stand for slow fashion, we only stock in small quantities to avoid overproduction and ensure each is made with quality. We’re also conscious about what we design and the cadence of our launches. Last year, we dropped Un Continuo Atardecer and Caja De Memorias. We also launched two collaborations, including The Mamá Necklace for L’Oréal Paris’s “Todas lo Valemos” Mother’s Day campaign, which raised donations for the Genes Fertility Institute to support women undergoing fertility treatments.

Seeing how we sell pieces we designed up to eight years ago, and how people continue to wear the ones they’ve had for years, is a testament to the quality and timelessness of MUNS. We’re proud to design pieces that are with you in everyday wear and the most significant moments in life.

Our Store

Over 7 years ago, Old San Juan became a home for MUNS and a gathering place for collaboration with other creatives.

We were inspired by gallery layouts and designed our store as a place to showcase our designs and welcome our customers from Puerto Rico and around the world to have a personal interaction with our collections. Now, we connect with new people through our pieces and greet customers who have been part of our community for years.

With thousands of people visiting this city every day, we share this space with Puerto Rican brands such as Isleñas, Sauca Botanicals, and Ombak. We’ve also featured galleries from independent artists like Holmiga, Julián Sosa Valles, and Mya Pagán, envisioning MUNS as a place to exhibit Puerto Rican art.

Meet us at the heart of Old San Juan, Calle Luna 201. Our store hours are:

Monday - Thursday: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Friday - Saturday: 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Sunday: 12:00 PM- 6:00 PM
